The entire thrust produced by internal pressure is absorbed by the segmental thrust ring. With a high density graphite gasket, a hardened stainless steel protection ring prevents deformation of the top surface of the soft steel, 304 stainless or 316 stainless. Without causing any harm to the body's sealing surface, the gasket can be readily removed.
